Homemade Bride — DIY Farm Sign

Hello DIYers,

Today we’re sharing steps and materials for making your own wooden farm signs!

First, here are some of our favorite quotes we have around the house:

“Today is a good day, to have a good day”

“Bless this mess”

“Be Still”

“Happiness is Handmade”

  • Plywood
  • 1×2″ Poplar Wood
  • White Paint
  • Black Craft Paint
  • Wood Stain
  • Paint Brushes
  • Carpenters Glue
  • Pencil
  • Soft Eraser
  • Twine
  • Scissors

  • Purchase plywood 1×2’s and get it cut at the store based on the desired size (home depot)
  •  Stain poplar beams for the frame
  • Paint the plywood white
  • Once dry, sketch your quote onto the plywood in pencil
  • Using the craft paint, paint the quote and let dry
  • Erase any uncovered pencil marks lightly
  • Using the carpenters glue, put an even line around the plywood sign
  • Stand up for 1×2″ beams around the plywood to create the frame
  • Now for my favorite trick, you need to clamp the frame down long enough to let the glue dry. Wrap a string of twine around the frame and tie tightly to keep the wood in place

Have fun with this one! I made one and now I can’t stop!

DIY Hanging Cake Garden — Homemade Bride Issue #7

Whether you choose to use this display for your cake, a mini bar, or a program station, this simple project will catch the eyes of so many guests and make for wonderful detail photos!

  • Round Wood Table Top
  • Pencil
  • Tape Measure
  • Wood Stain
  • Rope
  • Power Drill and Bit

  • For $5 at Home Depot, pick up a ___” round board.
  • Measure and mark three points evenly around the edge of the board, this is where the rope will tie in.
  • Drill a hole through the board at each mark making sure that your bit and rope are a similar size to avoid having the rope slip through.
  • Stain the board to create a fresh and rustic look and then clear coat it with matte Polycrylic Protective Finish, once it has dried overnight. This will help to preserve the look but mask that stain smell.
  • Based on where you plan to hang your cake display, you will want to be sure you attached the rope correctly. We chose to knot a separate piece of rope for each hole starting underneath the base. From there we connected all three around the tree branch with one final fancy knot.
