I can’t say that I’ve had to make this decision just yet… but I can say that I have seen a lot of brides struggle with this decision. It’s a big one, these pictures are not only a part of your wedding budget but they will also be pictures that you will look back on for years to come! So, with that said, we here at HMB have come up with a list of tips to help you choose the perfect outfit(S) for you engagement pictures – did you get that hint? Proceed 🙂
Love to Fish? Then Fish! Why pose for your photos in a pretty dress and heels when you can be found most days in shorts, a tee shirt and boots while sitting out on a pier? By sticking to your comfort zone, you will notice your comfort behind the camera. Your smile and actions will be natural and genuine, two things that can easily be spotted in photos!
Basically, when choosing your outfits, be sure to pay close attention to your groom as well. You want to be sure you are both dressed for the same purpose and your outfits reflect the fact that you are both dressed to attend the same place or “event.” This does not mean wear the same color shirts, it just means that there should be an obvious connection that is reflected in the outfits chosen.
Adding an adorable hat or colorful sweater can make your pictures more personable and give you various options! It’s an easy change of wardrobe and you can use the layers like hats, large jewelry, or scarves as props as well!
When choosing an outfit, think first about where you will be taking the pictures and about the surroundings that will show in the background of your images. If you are going to be in the woods or against a darker background, brighten things up with a bright skirt or dress! This would also apply in terms of making sure that you are not wearing the same color as your background. If you’re pictures will be taken on a beach or waterfront, you may want to stay away from wearing too much blue. Remember, we want YOU to stand out in your images first.
Bringing props to your engagement shoot is all the trend right now and can you imaging why?? Seriously. Adorable. Get creative and bring props to add flair and mystery to your photos. Think about what jokes or memories that you and your fiancé have together and try to come up with a way to express that to your family!
Having a vintage wedding? Stick with a similar style for your engagement session, especially if your save the dates are being sent with your engagement pictures! It is such a fun peek at what is to come on your wedding day!
No one ever said that you could only choose one outfit, so make a switch half way through your session or even choose another outfit to go with a different location. There are so many ways you may use your engagement pictures, like having them hanging in your home, or even on your save the date invites, so having options may be necessary!
Because why not!? You’re getting married to the love of your life…so strut your stuff and show off your best assets! Love your legs, wear a flattering skirt and heels. Love the muscle tone in your arms, show them off with an adorable tank and bulky jewelry! Whatever it is, show it off, while being classy of course!
